In this 3 hour intensive class, participants will learn the unique cultural history and significance of Mardi Gras, while imagineering and creating their own magnificent masquerade creation. Basic mask forms and a few supplies will be supplied, but students are welcome to bring any fun feathers, fur, finery and other supplies to finish your one-of-a kind Mardi Gras mask creation!

The class is open to students 12 years and older. Students under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Students receive instruction from career-long artist, arts producer and curator, Robin Williams, who has nearly 30 years of creative experience in New Orleans arts and culture scene as well as studying and building Mardi Gras masks and headdresses. Williams spearheaded "Mardi Gras Mambo on Mass Avenue" in Indianapolis in 2000. Williams ethnographic study of the masking traditions of the Mardi Gras Indians was recently installed in the Smithsonian Library in Washington D.C. Williams recently moved to Kokomo where she serves on the board of the Kokomo Art Association, and works in her studio Fleur de Lygon at Artworks Gallery downtown.

Use this workshop to make a mask for the Kokomo Art Association's "Mardi Gras Main Street Masquerade" Fun Raising Ball on Saturday, February 22nd.  Get more information HERE.
