We are glad to sponsor a class by local historical book binding expert Helen Schultz.

This class will teach a book binding method  based on the way books were made in Egypt and the lower Mediterranean area (known as the Coptic stitch) in the 4th to the 7th centuries. Example book is shown in the photos. It has been brought back into popularity in the last 20 years or so. It will have a wood cover, and the beauty of this type of binding, it opens completely, making it excellent for a notebook or sketchbook.

The finished notebook you will take home will be  4" x 6.5".

Materials provided are: Wood cover, waxed linen thread, paper.

Tools  are available to share, but are not included in the fee.
